New Latino Health Assessment underlines health differences

The Latin American population of Santa Clara County has been exposed to devastating health differences in recent years. According to a new report, the residents of Latino residents have exposed a higher rate of weapons, obesity and deaths from diabetes and heart disease than the district average.

For Santa Clara County Supervisor Sylvia Arenas-Die Best-ran Latina chosen the district of the district-is the recently published Latino Health Assessment “A clear evidence and confirmation of the crisis of public health that our community has.”

“Here in this district we are disproportionate by violence, poverty, overcrowded apartments, mental health problems and systemic obstacles,” said Arenas at a press conference on Monday morning. “And too often our communities are invisible in the data and forgotten in the financing.”

Latinos form one of four residents in the Santa Clara district – or about 25% of the population – and are often exposed to poor health results than their white and Asian colleagues, while on average they earn lower wages and have lower health insurance rates.

Between 2017 and 2021, 58% of the non -fatal emergency rooms were related to firearms in the Latino resident district. Between 2019 and 2023, 48% of the murder victims were Latino.
