The vast majority of voters – 108 – were made by Pope Francis, according to the Vatican Statistics of Pope Francis.

What is the conclave?

This is the meeting of cardinal voters to select the new Pope in the Sistine Chapel. His name, literally “with a key”, was used in the 13th century to describe the process of blocking down cardinals until the choice was completed. It must not begin more than 20 days after the death or resignation of a Pope. The voters are confiscated by all outsiders for the duration. The last three popes were selected within a few days.

He is the head of the College of Cardinal, who informs the rest of the cardinals and the ambassadors of the Pope's death with the death of the Pope as soon as he learns about it from the Camerlengo. He touches the conclave and forwards while the voters put their oaths. Since RE 91 is, he cannot choose, so that he will leave the Sistine chapel as soon as the conclave begins and the elderly Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, takes over.

What is St. Peter's Basilica?

The church from the 16th century, which was built over the traditional grave of the St. Peter apostle, is one of the largest Catholic basil in the world and the heart of the Vatican City, headquarters of the 1.4 billion Catholic Church. The Renaissance masterpiece was built and decorated by some of the most famous architects and artists of the time. What is the Domus Santa Marta?

This Vatican guest house, built in 1996, specially houses cardinals during a conclave and is used at a different time as a hotel to visit priests and Vatican officials. Pope Francis never moved out after he was elected and decided more in Suite 201 than in the papal apartments in the Apostolic Palace. Since there are so many voters this time and not enough space in the main building, some are accommodated in an adjacent residence.

What does 'extra omnes' mean?

A Latin expression for “All Out”, which is spoken by the master for papal liturgical celebrations, which is currently spoken of Italian archbishop Diego Ravelli, to ask everyone present apart from the cardinal voters to leave the Sistine chapel in order to start the voting process during the conclusion.

What does it mean if you say “habemus papam”?

This Latin phrase means “We have a Pope”. These are the words used by the “Protodeacon” of the College of Cardinale to announce from the St. Peter Basilica gallery that a new pope was chosen. He then says, the birth name of the new Pope and the name he used as a Pope, also in Latin. The current protodeacon is French Cardinal Dominique Mamberti.

Who are the Infirmarii?

These are the three cardinals that were selected by a random drawing of the voters that are accused of collecting the ballot papers of all voters who made it to Rome but are sick during the conclave.

What does the saying “Dede Vacante” mean?

This is Latin for the “free seat”, the period between death or the resignation of the Pope and the choice of a new one.

What does the text contain 'Universi Dominici Gregis'?

This Latin sentence means “the whole herd of the Lord”. It is the constitution of the Vatican that regulates the processes from the death of a Pope until a new one is chosen. Saint John Paul II was published in 1996 during his papacy, and Pope Benedict XVI. It changed twice by eliminating John Paul's destination that after about 12 days of voting, a simple majority could choose a new Pope than a two-thirds majority. If the conclave takes so long, the two best voters go into an outflow, with a two-thirds majority required for profit. Neither of the two best candidates gives a ballot in the drain.

What does white or black smoke mean during a papal transition?

After the vote in the Sistine chapel, the ballot papers are burned in a special oven to display the result of the outside world. If no pope is selected, the ballot papers with cartridges, the potassium perchlorate, anthraces (a component of coal tea) and sulfur for the production of black smoke are contained. If there is a winner, the burning ballot papers are mixed with potassium chlorate, lactose and chloroform resin to create the white smoke. Bells are usually collected to further signal. There is a new Pope.
