Cryptosis discuss new album “Celestial Death”

Dutch futuristic metal outfit cryptosis are back with Heavenly deathHer second album, which was released on March 7, 2025 on Century Media Records. After the Bionic Swarm 2021 and its 2023 EP the Silent Call, the band dives even deeper into dystopian sound landscapes. Metal Insider met with cryptosis to discuss their most recent offer.

What was the recording process like the recording of heavenly death?

First of all, thank you for having us insiders on Metal! Writing and recording “Celestial Death” was an intense but incredibly worthwhile experience. We gave ourselves more time and space than with our debut album, which enabled us to further experiment with sound design and atmosphere.

It all started during the songwriting process. We have recorded practically every idea that came to mind and put the files into a massive database. After about a year we selected the best ideas to continue working and transform them into complete songs. Some were only one guitar reef, while others were almost complete music sections with drums, bass, guitars and even singing ideas. For every idea we worked to find the right energy to form it into a song. We have outlined the entire album to ensure that it is a balanced album. We analyzed the types of songs that we already had and found what was missing. We examined tempos, keys and the types of riffs and melodies that we used, carefully and steered the album on a diverse but coherent sound. Some tracks had up to 25 versions, with changes to verses, bridges or choirs, while others only needed 5 updates to do it right. All in all, the entire songwriting process took about 3 years.

We then entered the studio and finely coordinated the last parts during the recordings. The meetings were intense, urgent and every detail was carefully shaped to reflect the topics of the recording. We wanted production to correspond to the extent of the history that we told.

The new plate moves in a darker atmospheric direction, what has this shift inspired?

The shift actually happened very naturally. As soon as we started writing, the ideas that came out were much more melodic, more symphonic and darker than what we created “Bionic Swarm” during the writing process. When we started writing this album, we still experienced the Covid pandemic and its effects. That definitely immersed them in music. We have made a conscious decision to relieve the gas a little when it came to the Thrash elements and high speeds, and instead concentrated us more in the atmosphere and groove. It felt like the right thing.

How do the texts combine against today's horrors, mixed with a dystopian future?

With the rise of technological progress such as AI, the futuristic concepts that we research in our music are converted to reality. We have joined a new world that still defines itself and brings excitement and concern. On the one hand, AI opens new creative opportunities. Whether it is noise that was once unimaginable or exceed the borders. On the other hand, there is growing fear of losing human authenticity. Music is an emotional and personal expression, and while Ki can imitate pattern, she lacks human experience behind these feelings.

For us, this progress is closely matching the topics of the “heavenly death”. A world in which humanity and technology are intertwined, but identity risks are lost. We are fascinated by this tension and want our music to reflect this fight. At the end of the day we believe that no machine can replace the raw passion and chaos that are due to a person. But maybe the definition of “human” will be different in 10 or 20 years. The future will say.

Which song was the most difficult to write?

That is a difficult question. To be honest, the entire album was a challenge to write because we had so many strong ideas that we wanted to include. In fact, we still have a lot of unused materials that can easily develop into songs for the next album.

Some songs went through several versions during the writing process. Some even had more than 20. Because of that, 'between the realities' the route with the highest number of revisions, so we would say that one was most difficult to complete. 'Ascending' would be just under a second. Both songs are full of details and complex progressive elements that you have to write very much.

What was the creative process for the video “Ascending?”

This song examines the topics of transformation, transcendence and the interaction of identity in a digital or metaphysical area. The texts draw a picture of someone who gives up its human limits and identity for a higher, infinite existence and has to struggle with the liberation and loss of the self. The video clamm tells the story of a person captured between two worlds. The old and the new, the natural and digital. Nature represents the fading, familiar world, while the urban landscape symbolizes a digital, abstract future. While the character moves between these contrasting environments, the visuals examine their inner transformation and the tension between holding a human identity and dissolving into something transcendent and borderless.

Do you see the cryptosis continued in this cinematic direction for the future?

Definitely! This album opened a door creatively. The cinematic direction gives us more space to tell the stories we want to tell. Not only lyrical, but also through sound landscapes, pictures and atmosphere. We have always dressed by concept -oriented work, and now we have the feeling that we have found the right tools to completely express these visions.

What do you hope that the fans take away the sky's death after listening?

In a landscape that is often saturated, we want to bring a new perspective (both musically and thematic). We want the fans to have the feeling that they experience something else and hopefully give them a lasting impression. That we managed to offer a touch of fresh air in the metal world and at the same time difficult to stay. We hope that we have reached and what we have planned.

Is there anything else that you want to say or add about the new album?

Heavenly death is more than just our second album. It is the real start of who we are as a band. If you like black, death, thrash, prog or symphonic metal, listen to our new album. For all popular streaming services it is available free of charge and check ours website/Social media To see if we come to a place near you!

Thank you again to have ourselves!
