What NTSB learned about Ashland County aircraft crash, in which the 72-year-old pilot was killed

Ashand County, Ohio (Woio) – The National Transportation Safety Board will stop a press conference on Wednesday at 3 p.m. on the fatal aircraft crash of Deadly Ashland County.

A 72-year-old man died on Monday evening after crashing his one-engine aircraft in Jackson Township.

The crash occurred at 7.42 p.m. in a forest area near the State Route 89 and the Township Road 902.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) soldiers said the pilot was the only person on board the Express 2000 feet.

He was identified as Gary Wolfelt from West Lafayette, Indiana.

Family members said 19 news, Wolfelt flew back from the Cleveland Clinic, in which he visited relatives.

Family members also said that Wolfelt flew for years and the plane in which he was in was built by hand.

Soldiers said the crash continued to be examined.

The neighbors saw and heard the plane flying and heard of the crash site before it crashed.

“When I looked out of my front window, I saw an airplane and it looked like it was storming over the end … I just started screaming that my daughter was looking.

The deputies of the sheriff Ashland County, Polk Jackson Perry Firefighers, an official from the Coroner's office of the Ashland County, and representatives of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the national transportation Safety Board (NTSB) also reacted to the crash scene on Tuesday.

OSHP could not determine whether the weather was a factor, but there were thunderstorms in the northeast of Ohio at the time of the crash.

“At the time of the crash, there were heavy storms. It definitely fell together and that is an unfortunate fact of this case,” said Lt. Brad Bishop from Ohio State Highway Patrol Ashland Post.
