DNA tests leads to an arrest with a fatal 2023 crash in Madison

Nashville, Tenn. (WSMV) – Two years after a woman was killed in a violent accident, the police arrested the man who was considered responsible.

It was shortly before Saturday, February 4, 2023, 3 a.m. Officials from the Metro Nashville Police Department were called to a crash at the intersection of Dickerson Pike and Old Hickory Boulevard in Madison.

The crash included a stolen Dodge charger that was driven by Torion Bean and a Mazda 3, which was driven by Kimberly Benzu, an affidavit for arrests. Benzee died at the scene. Her passenger was brought to the Skyline Medical Center with life -threatening injuries.

According to the arrest report, MNPD officers tried to carry out a traffic stop on the Dodge Charger about 1.5 miles north of the intersection. The report says that the driver went on the road.

MNPD said that the driver raced together with “several other vehicles that have carried out similar street races,” says the affidavit.

Monitoring video from the Walgreens and Tiger Mart at the intersection where the crash took place, the moments caught before and after the crash. The video showed that the driver of the Dodge Charger led the red light with high speed rate before falling in Benzu's Mazda 3.

The same surveillance video captures the driver, who comes out of the Dodge Charger, into another vehicle to flee from the scene.

According to an affidavit, the data writer from the Dodge Charger found that the car drove five seconds before the crash with 69 miles per hour. The speed limit in the area is 35 miles per hour.

DNA tests ultimately led the investigators to Torion Bean. The arrest report states that swabs were taken from two water bottles that were found in the Dodge Charger at the time of the crash and, after the test, corresponded to the DNA of the bean.

The airbags of the charger were also confiscated, but the results of the DNA tests are still out of the question.

The 25 -year -old Bean was arrested on Tuesday and booked into Davidson County's prison. He faces six crimes:

  • Criminal murder
  • Drag racing with serious physical injuries
  • Leave the scene of the accident with death
  • Calculate arrest
  • Vehicle theft
  • Severe attack

Bean should be in court on May 8th.
