Sunken ship, which was recovered from the Pere Marquette Lake, contained oil leaks

Ludington, me. (WPBN/WGTU) – A sunken ship was successfully recovered from the Pere Marquette Lake after it was submerged for at least three months.

The Ludington police authority informed photos of the recovery operation took place yesterday.

The boat was first discovered on the bottom of the lake in February.

At that time, the police reported that no dangerous materials were removed from the ship and the Ministry of the Environment, Large Lakes and Energy (Egle) advised Michigan that the boat could remain in the water until the ice is thawed.

During the restoration operation, however, a leak of oil and/or fuel was found, which comes from the boat.

The US Coast Guard Manistee employees stopped an oil children's boom to minimize the spread of the liquid in the water.

The police said that the leak's source had been removed from the water, but added that the boom remains in order to absorb all persistent liquids.

The city of Ludington financed the restoration company and plans to apply for the full reimbursement of the boat's boat.
