Do you need a garage gate -fix? What you have to pay attention to investigates repair fraud – NBC Connecticut

If you have to repair your garage gate, research your research.

The Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) from Connecticut now creates this warning after he has received 23 consumer complaints since April 2024.

Some consumers say that there is poor workmanship, others say they have not received a receipt.

The department's warning message is similar to what our NBC CT team shared in September after a woman from Burlington has experienced something similar.

Before you hire someone to repair your garage, DCP says that you should do the following:

  • Rent a local company: Ask the people who trust you on recommendations and read reviews for better business Bureau …
  • Compare the costs: if a deal is too good to be true, it is probably
  • Be skeptical about companies that offer an immediate or 24/7 service
  • Do not fall for high -pressure tactics
  • Written contracts are required for projects to improve homes in Connecticut
  • Garage regulations must have an active registration for the home improvement company at DCP

This can be checked online.

In the NBCCT response examined in autumn, the name of the company that a consumer allegedly hired was registered with DCP, but the address listed was for an orthodontist and an urgent supply without connection to the company.

According to the DCP, registration does not mean that it is a confirmation of the company.

So check the address listed and carry out all of these steps before adjusting someone.

DCP is now calling for symptoms or information from people who believe that a garage council has cheated them on since January 2024.

You can also send your complaint to: dcp.investigations@ct.gov by e -mail.

Make sure you give the company's name, the contract detail, the names of those who dealt with and the company's contact information.

The Burlington woman was overloaded in the NBC CT Responit's investigation.

Fortunately, NBC CT replied to get her back some money.
