City increases the building code score

The evaluation of Elgin's construction code has improved significantly since its last review of how records the city postpone the city before the state average and possibly reduce the insurance costs for the new building.

The classification plan of the new building code effectiveness code of the city- which was issued by Verisk from Verisks Insurance Services Office, is now 4 for residential and commercial properties from 6 in 2018. The evaluation system runs from 1 to 10.

According to the Department of Development Services by Elgin, the city achieved a score of 74.69 out of 100 for commercial construction and 67.79 for residential buildings. In comparison, the Texas state is an average of 53.31 for businesses and 50.42 for residential buildings.

Improvements that contribute to the evaluation included the introduction of newer building regulations, well -certified staff and appropriate personnel levels to ensure a thorough review of the planning according to the report. Lower results have been recorded in categories such as ongoing training hours, years of experience between inspectors and the formal persecution of inspection data.

Insurance companies can use the new rating to decide whether they offer lower prices for new buildings that are approved this year or later.

The city's employees said they plan to tackle the categories with a lower score in future training and budget planning efforts.
