The economic report raises gaps, growth, path forwards

Window rock – The distribution of economic development provided the budget and finance committee a detailed economic report in which the continuous recreational efforts, development goals and structural challenges that affect the municipalities in the Navajo nation outlined.

Strategic economic priorities take shape

Alisha L. Murphy, the economist of the DED, reported that unemployment is still an essential problem with a rate of 39.9 percent and has left 32,000 Navajo workers without work. The per capita income is $ 10,510, which corresponds to about a quarter of the US average. Murphy said many contributions from traditional economic activities such as web and huts that are not recorded and contribute to the gap between the actual value of the community and official data.

Despite these conditions, the nation is working on building important economic strengths, especially in tourism and the development of small businesses.
