2 police officers in northeast -ohio who were killed in duty to be honored

Cleveland, Ohio (Woio) – Two police officers in the northeast of Ohio, who were killed on duty, will be honored on Thursday at the 37th Ohio Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony in London, Ohio.

The police officer of Cleveland, Jamieson Ritter, was fatally shot on July 4, 2024.

Officer Ritter replied to a 911 call near East 80th Street and the Wade Park Avenue for a Garfield Heights suspect in a house.

Michael O'malley, public prosecutor of Cuyahoga County, said Ritter asked the suspect identified as a Delawnment Hardy to leave the house several times through a loudspeaker.

Hardy allegedly left with two swords and a gun out of the back door and fled with a bike.

As he drove away, the police from Cleveland said Hardy fired four shots. A beaten officer Ritter who died after being taken to a nearby hospital.

Hardy is currently undergoing psychological treatment in the Twin Valley Healthcare Hospital in Columbus to determine whether it can be restored in competence.

The Euclid Policeman Jacob Derbin was killed on May 11, 2024 after a shooter attacked him during a domestic dispute call in East 211th Street.

The suspect, Deshawn Vaughn, died on May 12, 2024 in a house in Shaker Heights from a self -inflicted firing injury.

Officer Derbin was engaged to his high school treasure.

The ceremony on Thursday will also appreciate the deputy Rex Emrick of Pickaway County Sheriff, who died on January 26, 2021, from Covid-19.

And, the corrections of the Sheriff by Butler County, Lt. David Reynolds, who died on September 30, 2021 from complications as a result of Covid-19, while working in Butler County's prison.

The ceremony will honor 842 peace officers in Ohio, who have died on duty since 1823.
