Durham County, NC (Witn) -A Creedmore man was killed by a State soldier after a traffic stop outside of Durham.

The Highway Patrol says that a State soldier overtook a pickup on Interstate 85 towards the south near Mile Marker 185 at 9:30 a.m.

Officials said the stop was originally made for the vehicle without having a registration sign.

During the stop, the driver gave counterfeit information, but the soldier was able to identify the driver from Creedmore as a 53-year-old Philip Brown.

Officials say Brown has several active arrest warrants.

A chase began after Brown started and brought the ramp to Red Mill Road, where he lost control and collided with a dam.

The Highway Patrol says that Brown was shot after not thinking the soldiers' orders to show his hands and said he had a dark object in one hand.

Brown died despite life -saving measures.

Trooper Nolan Neal, a veteran of 4 1/2 year olds stationed in Durham County, is currently managed with regard to an internal examination.
