Cavs get blurred injury updates for Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland, Evan Mabley and De'andre Hunter

Everyone is waiting to find out who will be available for Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday. The wait could take longer than we would like. Only Donovan Mitchell has received a positive injury update today. Darius Garland, Evan Mabley and De'andre Hunter remain completely unknown.

Head coach Kenny Atkinson said that he “not expected” that Mitchell will have an injury label for game 2 against the Indiana Pacers on Friday. He confirmed the opposite for Garland, Hunter and Mabley. All three are questionable.

The Cavs had what Atkinson described on Thursday as a shootaround before driving to Indianapolis. Nobody took part in the contact exercise. The three questionable players tilted in the shootaround.

This was a frustrating process for everyone, also for Atkinson.

“It is so difficult with these,” said Atkinson on Thursday, when he was asked about the injuries, especially Garlands, who was classified as questionable, but was missed by the team's last four playoff games.

“I can only answer if I'm somehow in your body. Otherwise I just play an installment game. You just never know. And I think this is just life in the NBA. I think it is frustrating for all of us? It is not a charges against someone or the players.

Garland has been questionable since game 3 of the Miami Heat series. Brian Windhorst from Espn assured the fan base that Garland “really injured” and struggled with a toe. At a certain point in time, players can only be effective with an injury that affects their mobility. Atkinson asked the fans to understand this feeling.

“You have to support him,” said Atkinson. “He wants to come to the pitch desperately.”

Hunter promised his thumb in game 1 of the second round. He will have four full rest days before game 3. It is unclear whether he can play.

Mobley twisted his ankle at the end of game 1. From Tuesday Mobley was still dealing with swelling and was unable to put his fourth weight on the ankle.

It is impossible to say who will play on Friday. We probably don't have a specific answer until shortly before the tip. So buckle up for 24 hours, Cavs fans.
