Archbishop Gustavo García-Schwiller to discuss the latest Pope of the Catholic Church

SAN ANTONIO -The archbishop Gustavo García was expected to inform the media about the election of the latest Pope of the Catholic Church on Thursday, according to a press release.

The briefing is scheduled to take place in the San Fernando Cathedral Center Hall Sala before evening mass at 5 p.m.

The new Pope Robert Prevost from Chicago is the first from the United States in the history of the Catholic Church. Prevost, a 69-year-old member of the Augustiner religious order, took the name Leo XIV.

Prevost had been a leading candidate for the papacy, but there has long been a taboo against a US pope, given the country's geopolitical power, which was already held in the secular sphere.

While the Catholic Community is preparing for the new chapter, García-Schwiller's briefing is expected to give an insight into the historical elections and the vision that Pope Leo XIV could have for the future of the Church.

On Thursday afternoon, García spill released a statement on Facebook about the elections that can be read below.
