Court rules navy that is liable for Red Hill Fuel Leck

Honolulu (Hawaiinewsnow) – On Wednesday, a federal judge decided that the USA was liable for the 2021 Red Hill Bulk Fuel Fuel camp on Oahu, which contaminated the drinking water and endangered the health of thousands of residents.

The US district judge Leslie Kobayashi gave 17 military family members damages for pain and suffering worth 3,000 to 75,000 US dollars, depending on the severity of their injuries.

Four of the plaintiffs receive additional compensation for future medical expenses of around $ 48,000.

“It is clear to the court that many of the plaintiffs suffered greatly and have countless health problems,” said Kobayashi in the 162-page preliminary finding regulation.

The Red Hill facility was closed and emptied after the leak. The two -week banking procedure began on April 29, 2024.

Despite the court that the government decided as liable, the families are upset about the gained dollar amounts.

The economic losses were minimal when assessing the court, and only one plaintiff received $ 2,144 for such a loss. Each plaintiff also received $ 1,000 for the loss of life fun.

Only good law PLLC published an explanation on Thursday after the US court's judgment.

“Our military family and civilian clients affected by the Red Hill Contamination Catastrophe have imagined all opportunities against the US government that was finally forced to admit their liability.

“These families can be proud to prove what was really going on when the navy poisoned the water supply near Pearl Harbor and had so many sick. The court rejected the government's argument that thousands of our customers were only psychosomatic and that there wasn't enough fuel to make someone sick.

“While the damage awarded by the court is disappointing, this is a step forward in the striving for the judiciary of our customers, and we continue to check options to solve the remaining over 7,500 cases.”

Some of the families said that Hawaii News now say that the amount of money the government has to pay is far too low and does not take into account the health conditions that they suffered from November 2021.

One of the plaintiffs said HNN that the judge's judgment triggered their PTBs and they were on the phone.

Another plaintiff said they were “sick in their stomach”.

One family said: “We are, to say the least, very disappointed. It feels like the government had been blamed for nothing. It is discouraging and so annoying. I feel defeated and everything we went through was nothing for nothing.”
