The interim policeman John Patterson announced a press conference that two weapons, magazines and ammunition were found in school on the day of the shooting. The shooter was only used one weapon and both were legally bought in Dane County Stores from Rupnow.

The police reported that they had found other weapons in the house during a search, including one that should be given to the young people, Natalie “Samantha” Ruppnow.

Patterson said it was a weapon in the apartment, but it did not prevent the teenager from having access regularly.

Dane County's public prosecutor's office said that Ruppnow will be released on Friday because of his initial appearance of the court.

The shootout in December 2024 killed a teacher and a student and injured six people. Five people were released from the hospital, with one still in a critical condition in the hospital.

The Madison police previously reported that they searched online records and other resources and spoke to the shooters' parents and classmates in order to determine a motive for the shootout.

Patterson also asked the public to respect the privacy of the victims, students and employees of Alcs, and asked the people to avoid the school campus on Thursday to enable victims and families to process the time and the space to process the information.
