The Oma police police say

Omaha, along with (Wowt) – 81% of women and 43% of men indicate that they have experienced in any form of sexual harassment or attack in their lives after the National Sexual Warce Resource Center.

Here in Omaha, the police authority of Omaha dealt with 223 reports about first degree sexual violence in 2024.

Lt. Shane Myers said 143 other crimes were sexual violence third degrees; Which does not include penetration. According to OPD records, there were more than 4,000 reports of domestic violence at the same time.

While a little over zero is considerable, Myers said that the numbers for these crimes tend.

“I think there was a spike directly in Covid,” said Myers. “People reported and reported that they somehow got up. But since then we have somehow excreted our normal normality.”

When officers speak to a victim who has gone through this, they handle it with sensitivity. Myers said that all OPD performs 40 hours of trauma-informed training.

It requires a team performance of agencies across Omaha to help. Myers is also the commander of the Department of Domestic Violence/Adult Sexual attacks at Project Harmony: A child protection center that is dedicated to helping children with abuse.

“We are a kind of nationwide guide about how we work for everyone,” said Myers. “I would not necessarily say that we have more crimes that fit into these categories, but I think we use interests and different resources to help the victims.”

Myers said many victims were nervous to report their attack. Sometimes it takes months or years to report.

“There are many people out there who can help and who can lead them through the process,” said Myers. “We are here to believe their history to work through them and to hold someone to account when we can.”
