Cyclists killed after driving from the truck on the Cobbs Creek Parkway in the southwest of Philadelphia

Philadelphia (WPVI) – A cyclist was killed after being hit by a truck in the southwest of Philadelphia.

“I noticed that I couldn't cross and I looked. He was covered,” said Rosy Coleman from the southwest of Philadelphia. “It was terrible.”

It happened around 8:15 a.m. on Thursday.

According to the police, the driver of a white Mack truck turned from the Baltimore Avenue to 58th Street (Cobbs Creek Parkway) on the right.

The cyclist, who also traveled to the Baltimore Avenue, was hit by the truck and was housed under the vehicle.

“It just happened so quickly, and when they heard the lump, we knew that it was,” said Joyce Brooks from Southwest Philadelphia.

The 50-year-old man was declared dead at the crime scene. His identity was not published.

“It was devastating, but I pray for the family,” said Brooks.

The residents of the region describe the intersection as very busy and dangerous and ask the local managers to improve security measures to prevent fatal crashes.

“If we don't have the signs and the right signals, it will happen here and that happens,” said Brooks.

We contacted Penndot and the city to get comments on improvements.

Penndot published this statement:

“Penndot has met several times in recent years with managers, residents, stakeholders and elected officials in recent years, including the motivation high school, to develop feedback and support for the design of a comprehensive program for the safety improvement for the Creek Parkway Corridor and the 63rd street.

The first phase of the project is to be advertised for the construction later this year, and the construction of the project would probably begin after the price procedure in early 2026. “

An investigation of this crash continues.

“I hope it doesn't happen again. I hope the city, Mayor Parker, get us what we need up here,” said Brooks.
