Crime Stopers: Trio steals historical markers from Sherman Reservation | Local news

Theft is always wrong, but it hurts on several levels. Especially in view of the likely small descent for this bad act compared to the victim that these objects are reminiscent of.

“This place was plagued by thieves that remove different types of metalplaques for several years that are returning until the 80s,” said Ranger Justin Young from the National Park Service.

The National Military Park Chickamauga and Chattanooga is a sacred place. Wet over his thousands of tomorrow, once from the blood of soldiers from the south and the northern donarians to their great battles. From there, three memorial plaques were recently stolen. “These plaques are specially made for the battlefield,” said Ranger Young. “They contain a lot of copper and a little can, so they are to make expensive materials.”

The big tablets were installed on Missionary Ridge in the Sherman Reserve. They tell the story of the Ohio Brigade. Young says you are probably going to a scrap place. But the trio's vehicle was caught on video. “On Sunday, on May 4th, around 12 p.m., two men and a woman arrived in a pickup,” he said, “and was seen by dragging heavy objects onto this street behind us.”

The two men, who were in her mid -20s, took care of it and pull. The woman stayed in the truck, which looks a model for Ford F-15 from the late 90s until the early 2000 model. “Just a two door, but it has an extended taxi and two tone,” Young continued. “It has a long gray strip on the floor.” It also has a double exhaust and a purple or blue blanket in bed.

There is reward money if you can put these information together and help these people, or if you recognize a piece of history before it is melted. The tablets cost almost $ 18,000. “The park belongs to everyone,” said Young. “So basically steal a little of every taxpayer in America when you steal things that are historical for the park.”

Do you recognize this truck? Have you seen large metal tablets that looked very out of place? We may have a cash reward for you. Call crime stopers: 698-3333. Your good tip will be passed on to the Park Rangers. And as always, we will never ask her for your name.
