Video of the violent attack on the Gilroy School Spurs lawsuit

Almost a year ago, a student of a Gilroy school stabbed another during a fight in a bathroom. Now a new video about a separate act of violence has appeared on the same campus in 2024, which puts the school and the district back in the spotlight.

Brutal blows that are caught on video

What we know:

When the Gilroy Unified School District Board met in the closed session on Thursday evening, another lawsuit came to light. The cell phone video shows how a student of Christopher High School grabs another student on the hair, throws it to the ground and delivers a brutal blows.

“I just couldn't imagine being a student in this school and seeing something like that,” said lawyer Mark Boskovich.

Boskovich represents the victim, which was identified in legal documents as “Jane Doe” together with her family. He claimed that the attack of the Sucker-Punch in the video was a setup of another 16-year-old student who was referred to as “Heather Doe” and had previously been transferred by another district school due to behavioral problems.

“I do not know what environment you grow up in which you think that this is ok – to attack only someone. It is inappropriate,” said Sandra, a parent of a student who refused to give her last name. “This procedure is not calculated 100%.”

Boskovich said this marked the third year in a row, in which a uniform student of Gilroy was attacked and beaten on campus without intervention for adults.

In May 2024, a student tried to stab another one during a bathroom fight in Christopher High.

In a second video from 2023, which was made available by Boskovich, a student is seen who beats another on the campus of a Gilroy middle school. This case was enclosed with damage of $ 100,000.

“These fights last several seconds. Nobody intervenes. People just crowd around – there is only noise – and they think where is the teacher?” Said Boskovich. “Never in the video comes in and intervenes.”

District -beating with a lawsuit

Grab deeper:

Boskovich again sued the Gilroy Unified School District, this time due to battery, negligence by public employees and breach of duty.

“Have the boys [teacher] in the right place. I only have a plan. Just think about it. Be conscientious about it. It is not a rocket science, “he said.

In response to the lawsuit, Gilroy Unified explained in a statement that “all allegations of harassment, bullying or abuse of all kinds take it very seriously and that the security of all students and employees is the first priority.”

Some Christopher High parents said that violence on campus has been a problem for years – and extends over just one district.

“No matter how good protection is in school, these children will just act as they do,” said Sandra.

The victim's parents in the recent case have withdrawn their daughter from school and now have them at home for security reasons.

The district has not announced whether one of the students involved in the incidents was disciplined or which discipline may have been.
