New Pope Live: Pope Leo warns against reducing Jesus to the “charismatic leader” – after he spoke English at the beginning of the first trade fair | World news

We make our reporting for today.

Pope Leo previously led his first Holy Mass as a Pope in the Sistine Chapel, where he was elected less than 24 hours earlier.

He prayed that his historical papacy of the Catholic Church can help to be a beacon that illuminates “the dark nights of this world”.

Former Cardinal Robert Prevost and the first US pope were dressed in relatively simple white and gold robes and said a few words in English before continued to continue his sermon in fluent Italian.

In his words, he reflected on how he wanted the church to look under his papacy, and added: “God entrusted me with this treasure.”

The Pope also said:

  • There are settings “where it is not easy to preach the gospel and to endure its truth”;
  • He said that there are contexts in which “believers mocked, against, despised or at best tolerated and involved”;
  • The Pope said that sometimes Jesus was “reduced to a kind of charismatic leader or Superman”;
  • He also said that he knew that he could rely on everyone in the chapel to go with him.

The 69-year-old Leo was chosen at the end of a two-day two-day conclave that was completed last night when white smoke turned out of the chapel's chimney.

In addition to his US citizenship, he also has Peruvian citizenship.

When the fair developed, Buckingham Palace also announced that the king sent the Pope a private message and congratulated him on his choice as the 267th Pontiff.
