Hungarian expenses from Ukrainian diplomats after his spies in Ukraine Zakarpattia were exposed

According to Szijjártó, the anti-Hungarian propaganda in Ukraine has become stronger since the beginning of the complete invasion. He said the reason for the current “defamed campaign against Hungary” was the same as before: the Hungarian government refuses to deliver Ukraine weapons and continues to work for peace.

It is worth noting that Szijjártó did not mention in his speech that the security service of Ukraine (SSU) revealed a network of foreign agents for the first time in Ukrainian history – in particular the Hungarian military intelligence that led espionage activities in the Ukrainian area. From the context, however, it is clear that the minister may refer to it.

The Hungarian Foreign Minister said that “they cannot tolerate a defamed campaign against Hungary”.

“Today we excluded two spies that worked under diplomatic cover in the Ukraine message in Budapest. The corresponding decision and note were handed over to the Ukrainian ambassador in Budapest here in the Foreign Ministry a few minutes ago,” he said.

SSU reveals Hungarian agents

On May 9, Ukraine's Security Service (SSU) reported to uncover agents of the military secret services active in the Zakarpattia region. Their main tasks included:

  • Collecting information on the region's military security status,

  • Identification of weaknesses in soil and air defense,

  • Monitoring the local mood and reactions in a possible Hungarian idea.

As part of a special operation, the SSU recorded two agents who worked under the supervision of a Hungarian intelligence officer. Both prisoners were officially charged with treason that were committed during the war law. According to Ukrainian law, they have lifelong detention.

In the meantime, the Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó now commented on the espionage case. He claimed that reports on Hungarian military equipment exposed in Zakarpattia should allegedly be regarded as “Ukrainian propaganda”.
