The richest man in South Africa gives his fortune quietly over $ 1 billion

Rupert, the second richest man in the continent behind the Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote, dramatically increased $ 13.7 billion in April at the beginning of the year.

Rupert was listed as the 171st richest person in the world from January 2025. He had risen to 145th place until April, a significant improvement in such a short time.

According to Bloomberg, his wealth growth is $ 1.64 billion from year to year, with the recent single day profit of $ 97.7 million.

Rupert's assets grew particularly quickly in February when it reached its peak at $ 17 billion and at that time he created the best billionaire Africa of the year.

Then he had a change in the net assets of +3.32 billion US dollars (YTD) compared to Dangote of +153 million.

His assets reflect the strong performance of his luxury goods, especially Richemont, which has recognized brands like Cartier and Montblanc worldwide.

Forbes published an article in March in which the general resurrection of Africa's billionaire class is listed, which offers a larger background for Rupert's performance.

South Africa led the rebound with seven billionaires, followed by Nigeria and Egypt at four per piece. Morocco provided three billionaires to the list, with Algeria (represented by Isad Rebrab), Tanzania (Mohammed Dewiji) and Zimbabwe (Strive Masiyiwa).

Johann Rupert has good performance last year on Richemont's most part of his 39% growth of the Fortunes last year, even though he is in the global luxury business against headwind.

According to his last financial report, the third quarter of Richemont had a record sales of € 6.15 billion on December 31, 2024, which corresponds to a profit of 10% compared to the previous year on constants and real exchange rates.

Sales rose by 11% and made 71% of the total sales of the groups, led by the jewelry of Maison.

In this segment, Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Buccellati and Vhernier increased by 14%, which is due to a strong performance of legendary jewelry and watches of lines, especially during the festive season.
