Swatch debut its colorful, transparent diving watch collection

In our industry we are lucky to be able to cover and check guards of all kinds. Before 2022S Internetbrechens Moonswatch cooperation with Omega, Swatch was a fun brand, but one that rarely occupied our gaze. They pursued this publication with another luxury partnership, which was related to Blancpain on a Bioceramic version of the Fifty Fathoms Diver. And although Swatch has been in a way producing water boxes for over 30 years in a way, it was the first to really feel like it would be aware of wax enthusiasts.

Now the Swiss budget brand with five lively diving watches inspired with jellyfish, which combine playfulness, ventures known for the Swatch with actual functions for functional diving system.

Wasernostalgia

Return to 1990, when Swatch dropped his first real diving guard, the Scuba 200. Before “Desk-Daucher” was really one thing, these 38 mm quartz timeline knives were about as casual as possible. They embodied everything about design sensitivities of the 90s with aggressive colors and unpretentious design. The original Scuba 200 was finally eliminated, but the Scubaqua collection revives this spirit for the modern carrier.

Instead of just recycling designs, Swatch has completely reinterpreted the concept. These are larger, 44m watches (with a thickness of 15.4 mm) with a partially transparent housing and a dial, creating a visual experience that causes the translucent sea creatures, which served as inspiration. But the best thing is that they look just as “acceptable”, for example to wear their most funky G-shock models.

Material innovation

The true technical history here includes the fusion of two materials that have become of central importance for Swatch's modern identity. The fixed sections on the crown and bezel use the same bioCeramic connection contained in the moonwatch. Bioceramic as a Swatch patent consists of a ceramic-plastic hybrid that offers improved durability without impairing the ease. In the meantime, the transparent components on these watches use a “organic sourcing material” from castor oil, which gives this watch its unique “jelly” quality quality.

This pairing of material creates a very cool visual contrast between mats and shiny surfaces, where the opaque and transparent elements completely undermine the classic tool use of a traditional diving clock. And while we are nothing but fanboys traditional divers, they earn their own place at the horological table.

Depth without claims

The quartz -operated Scubaqua ranges in five colors and ranges from the more demanding black sea fuel nettles to the summer yellow egg yolk and the blue fire variants. There is also an all-Red Lion's mane option and a white Aurelia Aurita color, which surprisingly has most of the variety of colors with red, blue and yellow hands.

The most striking feature of the collection may be the unconventional crown position at 10 a.m., which SWATCH claims to increase security, but also expand the puzzle of the watch. Despite the playfulness, the Scubaqua provides a respectable diving clock function with 100 m water resistance. In addition, Lume is applied to the markings and hands so that they would pack like a serious diving guard in poor lighting conditions. Swatch used Super-Luminova Lume in the past, but this was not specified for the new collection.

Finally, the integrated belts consist of silicone to meet their respective cases and are adopted with a polymer closure.
