“Black Bag” (2025)

Steven Soderbergh's spy thriller begins slowly and deliberately and lets his secret agent (Michael Fassbender, Cate Blanchett) weigh the audience in a wrong feeling of security. First build tensions at a dinner party with colleagues and then back in the office, where Fassbenders George has to examine an act of espionage – and all the signs point to Blanchett's Kathryn.

The guests of the couple (Tom Burke, Regé-Jean Page, Marisa Abela, Naomie Harris) are drawn into George and Kathryn's mess, and their boss (Pierce Brosnan) is also not above the accusation. With a determined soundtrack, which is composed by Soderbergh's “Ocean's 11” collaborator David Holmes, “Black Bag” is a slim thriller who puts the love of a man and love of his wife to test.

Shortly after the Tina Fey remake made his debut on May 1st, Netflix added the original film “The Four Seasons” from 1981 in 1981. The series and the film follow the same basic action with six lifelong friends (from three couples) who go on vacation four times a year.

Alan Alda and Carol Burnett play the most central couples (similar to Fey and Will Forte in the series). Len Cariou (“Blue Bloods”) plays the Steve Carell equivalent, also known as the one who shakes the core of her friendship group by asking his wife for a divorce. The whole ensemble plays well together and the film is a nice memory of a time in Hollywood when adult dramas with real inserts still had a place in the multiplex.
