“On call” by Prime Video canceled after the renewal talks goes through

Exclusive: Amazon does not continue with a second season of the half-hour action police drama On call, From Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television, sources give the deadline. The series with Troian Bellisario and Brandon Larracuente was bought on other platforms, and two of them have had discussions about a potential second season, I hear.

This is a somewhat surprising development than On callCreated by Tim Walsh and Elliot Wolf, after January 9, from all eight episodes on January 9, the streamer reached the stream in the USA and achieved a 92% public assessment for Rotten tomatoes. (The series received mixed reactions from critics.)

In fact, Amazon contacted the show manufacturers a few weeks ago to extend the two-seasons, said sources. It looked good until the offer was accompanied by the request to reduce the premium of the series, as I hear. According to the widespread current model for the cost leadership compensation, the license fees are held from the platforms, which go to the costs of the series as well as a bonus at the top of the projects and instead of the backend to the project participants of the project and the studio.

This is not a surprising development – practically every renewal discussion in the current difficult economic environment in the entire radio and streaming is associated with strings with license fees/budget cuts. The process is even more difficult if outside the studios are exposed to an ever higher threshold for renewal. (Universal television is the main studio for On call, Co-production with Amazon MGM Studios in cooperation with the Wolf Entertainment based in NBCU.)

According to Sources, Amazon's argument for the cut that the company lost money on the show was also something that we often hear, especially in series that is not in possession. For Wolf Entertainment and Universal TV, the reduction of a bonus that was initially not great was On call At Amazon, an extension of the two-year extension for cancellation was exceeded within weeks.

All in all, the farewell to the paths was mutually agreed, whereby Amazon enabled the producers to take back the rights to the existing season when they find a new home for the series, which not all streamers agree.

I hear that there are active conversations with two places. It is not surprising that one of them is NBCuniversals Pfau and streaming home to Dick Wolfs NBC Chicago And Law & order Dramas and his Peacock original Law & Order: Organized Crimes, Everyone ranks to the most observed programs on the platform.

Sources for Amazon and Wolf Entertainment rejected a comment.

The half-hour drama genre from the early days of television in the streaming age was a passion for Wolf. How he did it Law & Order, Chicago Fire And FBIHe imagined On call As a franchise, with a second half -hour drama in development behind it, I hear.

The franchise potential is next to On callWolf's first original streaming series. Nevertheless, it is likely to be due to financial data, whereby sources continue the likelihood of the police drama with 50-50 in another place.

On call was originally founded in 2021 at Amazon's Avod Platform IMDB TV, which became Amazon Freeve before closing last autumn. Until then, the series for Prime Video had hiked. On call Stars Bellisario and Larracuente as an experienced officer and rookie duo, which patrols the streets of Long Beach, CA. The series contains a mixture of bodycam, dash camera and cell phone film material to achieve a cinemaverité effect and examines the morality of protection and the services of a community.

The recurring line -up includes Lori Loughlin, Eriq La Salle and Rich Ting. Dick Wolf, his son Elliot Wolf, Walsh, La Salle, who staged several episodes, and Peter Jankowski are executing producers.
