The suspect in the Havre murder was arrested

The agency said that a 911 caller reported a deceased woman in an apartment along the 300 block of 14th Avenue on Wednesday, and the responding civil servants confirmed that the person died.

At the time, the police said that the circumstances “seem to be suspicious with the possibility of a bad game”.

The type of death has not yet been published, but the agency stated: “In order to deal with and dispel bad information on social media, the authorities confirm that the deceased was completely intact.”

The police contacted the Department of Criminal Investigations by the Ministry of Justice in Montana and led them to one person: 35-year-old Cody Rencurel.

He was found in the possession of Schroeder's vehicle in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

Criminal prosecution authorities, including the Havre police, the Sheriff office of the Kootenai County, and the police of Coeur d'Elene have guaranteed an arrest warrant against Rencurel for conscious murder.

Here is the full text of a press release from the Havre police department:

On May 7, 2025 at around 2:14 p.m., the Havre police authority replied to a 911 call that reported a deceased woman in the 300 block of 14th Avenue. Several police officers from Havre reacted to the complaint and found a woman who was identified as a 35-year-old Dixie Schroeder.

After the discovery of death, the Havre police authority, together with the Hill County's Sheriff, initiated an investigation of the circumstances in connection with Schroeder's death. Based on information that was observed at the scene, the officials suspected that the foul was involved and requested additional investigation support from the Montana Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI).

The investigation continued together, and at that time a person was identified by interest. The investigators continued to pursue information and found that this person was of interest in the possession of Schroeder's vehicle and was currently in the Ceaur d'Erenen, Idaho. The investigators delivered their results to the public prosecutor's office of the Hill County in the evening of Thursday, May 8, 2025.

The Hill County public prosecutor then applied for an arrest warrant for 35-year-old Cody Rencurel because of the crime of the deliberate murder. Agents and civil servants worked together with the Sheriff office of the Kootenai County and the police department of Coeur d'Alene to take Rencurel in custody.

Evidence during the arrest and the subsequent search for Rencurel's property showed that additional violent crimes were planned. Up to that time, Rencurel is currently being held in the Kootai County Haftzentrum for the crime of the deliberate murder. This case is still being examined and agents/civil servants continue to pursue leads.

This investigation would not have been possible without the unshakable cooperation, teamwork and the communication of several agencies. We would like to appreciate the Hill County's office, the Task Force of the Tri-Agency Drug, the public prosecutor's office of Hill County, the Montana Division of Criminal Investigation, the Cototenai County's Sheriff Office, the police department of COOTENAI. We patiently ask the community if the investigators continue the investigation. If you have information about this case, we ask you to contact the Havre police under number 406-265-4361.
