Quinton Lucas, Mayor of Kansas City, said Hoffman showed the “best quality” of the city through his “selfless service for others”.

“The fact that he was taken away by us during work to save life makes this loss all the more painful,” said Lucas. “This senseless action reminds us of the dangers from which our first aiders are exposed to every day. The suspect remains custody, since the police authority works with the public prosecutor of Clay County on the indictment. We will not only require the accountability obligation on the suspect, but also for all steps of the system that are too short.”

According to Lucas, the city mourns Hoffman's family, friends and the fire brigade and asked that Kansa's Citeans kept the Hoffman family and the “brave first aiders” of the city in their prayers.
