Cyclists killed with a collision with garbage trolleys in Atherton

Aherton – A cyclist was killed with a garbage trolley in Atherton on Wednesday morning in Atherton.

The crash occurred at 7:40 a.m. near the intersection of the Middlefield Road and the Prior Lane, the Atherton Police Department said in a press release. The cyclist was brought to a regional hospital in a short time later, where they were declared dead.

Death marks the first mode of transport in the city of the year.

A first examination showed that the garbage truck went south on the Middlefield Road and turned right into the previous Lane when he met the cyclist, who also traveled south in the designated bicycle lane, the police said.

The driver stayed at the scene and worked together with the examination. The police said there is no indication that alcohol or drug factors have contributed to the collision.

The medical examiner's office in Santa Clara County will publish the identity of the cyclist as soon as it is confirmed and the next relative will be notified, the police said.

The director of the Menlo Atheron High School, Karl Losekoot, identified the cyclist as Freshman football coach on the campus, according to News Site Inmenlo.

“Many will feel his tragic loss,” he said in a message to the community and the staff.

In an explanation on Friday, Atherton's police chief, Steven McCulley, said the officials will strengthen patrols in the area to draw more attention to bicycle, pedestrian and vehicle security.

“On behalf of the entire police department team and the city of Atherton, I expand the family, friends and members of the victim our warm condolences,” said McCulley. “No words can alleviate the pain of such a devastating loss, but please know that our thoughts are with you in this incredibly difficult time.”
