The drama follows the outbreak of the Katla volcano – a real, active subglacial volcano in southern Iceland.

A year later, the remote city of Vík is still in ashes, almost exclusively left – with the exception of some determined residents.

Then something strange happens: people who died years ago appear, alive and unchanged, including a woman who has disappeared two decades earlier. These ash -covered figures arouse fear and confusion and revitalized the old folklore over mysterious beings, which are called “changeling”.
