Letter: Walrus restaurateurs accuses the crime for the closure of Columbia Mall unfairly

Desmond Reilly was sure to step on Columbia and its inhabitants when he was not a lock, but one, but one threefailed companies. His wish to save the face in the middle of a short exit is understandable. The crimes in the shopping center responsible for its failures (“The shopping center in Columbia has become another world”: restaurateurs accuses the crime of closures, May 2, 2025) and the production of an unjustified round of negative press for Columbia was unfair to the city and its hard -won reputation.

Columbia is often listed as one of the best places in America. Our reputation as a safe and diverse community with great schools and a flourishing art and cultural district is the key to your continuing success because we attract new and large employers.

The banner reported that crime data in the shopping center showed “no crime”. According to the police from Howard County, there were 44 cases in the first three months in the first three months of 2023, 44 cases in the same period in 2024 and 33 reported in the Columbia district in the first three months.

Reilly's argument does not consist of the smell test – especially since many of his neighbors in the shopping center continue to be successful. Maybe his fights have more to do with quality and costs. The 4 -unzen burger and the fries of the walrus costs $ 22.50. Shake Shack sells a burger and fries for about 14.50 US dollars next door. Maggiano offers crab cake for 22 US dollars. The walrus has a single crab cake for $ 30 and a 4 -unzenhummer bun for $ 39.

Since the federal discharge continues to increase the region and the prices for food, everyday goods, housing and childcare, people reduce. Is it a route to believe that the Reilly restaurants did not meet customers' expectations in terms of value and price in a stricter economy?

Reilly should not have throwed Columbia and his shopping center under the bus on the way outside if he had no evidence of supporting his claims. A graceful output is always valued.
