Family confirms that the founder of Kwik Fit died

The Scottish Business -Tycoon and the Philanthrop Sir Tom Farmer died at the age of 84, his family said on Friday.

The renowned entrepreneur, who is primarily known for the founding of the Garage chain of Kwik Fit, died peacefully in his house in Edinburgh.

Sir Tom's effects extended beyond the automotive world. He held prominent positions as director of the Mytravel Group and Scottish Power and demonstrated his diverse business sense.

As a lifelong football lover, he was a majority stake in the Hibernian Football Club for 28 years and sold his interest in the US businessman Ron Gordon in 2019. Its legacy leaves both the Scottish business landscape and the sports community.

In an explanation on Saturday, his family said that Sir Tom's life and career “touched many aspects of Scottish and British life”, and his philanthropy would be remembered.

They added: “More than anything was a family man. Born in Leith, Edinburgh, he was the youngest of seven children in 1940.

“He often spoke of love, care and attention that was awarded to him in such a large family.”

The businessman had three brothers and three sisters, many nieces and nephews, and the family said that he was “proud to be an uncle for them and their families”.

He married Anne in 1966, after getting to know herself in her local church, and the faithful Catholics were 57 years together until their death in 2023.

Her family said Sir Tom had often attributed Anna for his business success: “In later years, when he was asked about the secret of his success, he often said that he” married a girl like Anne “.

“They lived their entire married life in Edinburgh and are survived by their two children and four grandchildren.

“Sir Toms Roman Catholic faith was present in all areas of his life. He visited Weekly in Edinburgh and enjoyed the friendship and society of many people with the Catholic community both here in Scotland and on.

“Sir Tom will be remembered by many for his deep commitment to his family, his work and his faith and for whom a proud gravel will be remembered at all times.”
