Trump's latest Fox News rent looks even worse than Pete Hegseth | Margaret Sullivan

THe turned the door between the Trump administration and the right Fox News this week when President Jeanine Pirro owned by the USA typed for a prominent right-wing position: Top Bundestwundproat Attorney for Washington DC.

Pirro is not qualified, maybe even more than her former Fox colleague Pete Hegseth when he was appointed Trump defense secretary a few months ago. In this crucial position, Hegseth was a dangerous embarrassment because his shockingly inappropriate communication in the world established national security secrets.

Although Pirro once at the state level, it has not held a legal position for decades. But for 14 years she has recently been the host of Fox, recently as host of the five, the popular talk show of the network, as hosts of the FIVE, the network.

But no matter. She “is alone in a class,” wrote Trump on social media when he announced his intention to make her a preliminary (and maybe permanent) prosecutor.

His description may be exactly, but certainly not as he intends.

Pirros record at FOX is a surprisingly checkered even for this propaganda outfit. A few years ago, she had difficulties with the brass of the network because of her eager promotion of Trump's lies about supposed voter fraud in the 2020 elections (the voting woman lies became part of a defamation against the network by a company. Fox paid almost $ 800 million to pay the case and had to recognize that the on-air statements were wrong.)

Fox once suspended her for her ugly comment on the representative Ilhan Omar, who bears a hijab, which Pirro suggested, compliance with the “Sharia law, which corresponds to the constitution of the United States”. And she campaigned for a “cleaning” of the FBI and the Ministry of Justice because her rows were full of people who “have to be removed in handcuffs”.

But none of this seems to be a real concern to the President because Pirro has a big deal for them. During a long friendship and many visits to Mar-A-Lago, she was relentlessly loyal to Trump.

In fact, it went far beyond loyalty into direct sycophagus.

In this regard, Pirro has what it needs.

“Since Trump has returned to office, Pirro has been busy showering him and beating himself up on everyone who stands in the way,” wrote Matt Gertz, Senior Fellow in the media -progressive of the progressive watchdog group and notices that she is the 23rd former Fox employee who broke out for his administration.

Tom Homan, a former Fox employee, became Trump's “border quota” and aggressively carried out the government's anti-immigrant policy, and Mike Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas and former moderator of a weekly Fox show, was appointed ambassador in Israel.

Apart from her peerless cheerleading, Pirro would be useful in practical terms, the New York Times noticed in a news story.

She supports “Trump's efforts to avenge his political enemies, has set his challenges for federal judges who have questioned the legality of his immigration policy and spent months against the legitimacy of the choice of bidens 2020 in the presidency.

Although Trump often does not return the favor of loyalty, he has For Pirro's family, pardoned her former husband (once Trump's lawyer), who was convicted of conspiracy and tax consulting costs in 2020.

Overall, this is a serious symbiosis. Pirro can move away from her top-class and highly earned TV job, and can solve a sticky problem for Trump, whose earlier choice for the position of the DC prosecutor with the Republicans of the Senate came into trouble.

It is not clear whether the nomination of Pirro, especially long -term, will be successful. Although Trump nominated her for the time being, he would like to have little doubt that it is permanent. But the preliminary appointment can also make a legal dispute over how many economic lawyers that the president can appoint one after the other.

You could think that the president with Hegseth's rocky and widely criticized start as Minister of Defense -where he monitors almost 3 million employees -to choose another non -qualified TV personality for a key role.

But Trump clearly doesn't see it that way.

There is hardly anything better than it turns out than Fox News on the CV – even better if it is combined with a solid record of loyalty to the chief audience.
