Astros RhP Lance McCullers Jr. Gacks Murder threats after the loss | The mighty 790 kfgo

Houston Astros, Lance McCullers Jr.

McCullers started the home game against the Cincinnati Reds, but was pulled in the first inn after he had registered seven runs with three goals and three walks on 36 parking spaces. The Reds scored 10 runs in the inning and won 13-9.

“I understand that people are very passionate and love people who love astros and love sports, but it is a bit difficult to find and murder my children,” said McCullers, 31, and confirmed that the threats were shaped over social media.

“There have been many, many threats to me over the years, and I think, in fact, one or two people from other topics about baseball actually had to go to prison,” he said. “But I think children bring children into the equation, threatened to find them, or when they see us in public, they will stab my children to death … Things are difficult to hear as a father.”

McCullers spent his career at the Astros and was part of the World Series Championship teams in 2017 and 2022. He missed every 2023 and 2024 seasons for arm expenditure and returned to the host Chicago White Sox last Sunday.

For the first time, McCullers had been admitted to three goals and three walks in a Major -League game since game 3 of the 2022 World Series and recorded four strikes in 3 2/3 goalless innings. He did not determine in the decision with a 5: 4 loss against Chicago.

His second excursion and the first in Houston was Saturday and “a hard evening,” he said later.

“Obviously you want to get well, but I think to bring your teammates to this place is more that of the excursion,” said McCullers (0-1, 15.75 ERA). “I didn't feel super comfortable with my parking spaces in the last two excursions. I don't know if it is just free time. I don't feel nervous, but maybe I just don't move as I am used to moving.

“You know, you fail on a very large stage – many eyes. And there is nowhere to hide. At the end of the day I just want to do my job. I just want to be a good jug for the astros. And I think I will arrive there.”

The Astros manager Joe Espada believes in McCullers and could not believe how some reacted with threats to murder.

“… it is very unfortunate that Lance McCullers … there is people who threaten his life and life of his children because of his performance this evening,” said Espada after the game. “It is very unfortunate that we have to deal with it – after all, he did for this team for this city.

“I also have children. And it really drives me crazy that we have to deal with it. Very sad. Very, very sad.”

McCullers, the son of a former Major League Pitcher (1985-90, 1992), was an all-star in 2017 and in 2021 in the voting of the American League Cy Young Award.

McCullers from Houston von Houston in the MLB Draft 2012 in the MLB draft 2012 is 49-33 with an ERA of 3.55, 302 walks and 804 strikes in 722 2/3 innings over 132 games of the regular season (129 starts).

“He didn't take for 2 1/2 years. We have to give some time, okay?” Said Espada. “That can't happen. I am really upset that this has happened to the athletes, and … you know, we try our best. Everyone is trying our best. But the fact that I have to go to my office and deal with it? Come on.”
