Strive for crime stops from Halton, to achieve new heights with fundraisers

The tips of the organization contributed to this

Crime Stopers of Halton has presented new donation initiatives and its highest donation to all time.

With two new events, Crime Stopers hopes to exceed the pre-Pandemic fundraisers for the first time. Jan Westcott, a director of Crime Stopers of Halton, recently told the HASTON Police Board that many organizations for crime plugs did not survive pandemic than the ability to collect donations was severely restricted.

Crime Stopers of Halton hopes to collect 63,625 US dollars in 2025 -a number that was $ 53,761 in 2019, but dropped from up to $ 24,844 US dollars in 2022.

Similarly, the number of volunteers of the crime stopper during the pandemic fell to 25, but the organization now has 125 volunteers, including more and more young people.

Crime Stopers of Halton also asked the Halton Police Board for an increase in its annual financing to support its role in the Watch Pilot program of the Halton Police in Oakville. The board was approved by the board of 49,000 to 75,000 US dollars.

During the presentation, Crime Stopers of Halton emphasized some of his work.

“Last year, Crime Stopers played a role in the discovery and end of a human trade that took place in Halton,” said Westcott.

He said the organization received about 200 tips per month.

“Obviously, not all of them are credible things that we are reacted to,” said Westcott. “They are all handed over to our police coordinator and treated to determine the seriousness of them.”

When asked how much money is paid out in rewards, Westcott said that the amount had decreased, whereby people state that they are not interested in the reward, but only want to report the information because it is the right one. “

The organization has planned two new fundraisers for this year, the Community Watch Car Show in the parking lot of the police headquarters and trip to Ribs, an event that takes place during the Oakville Rib.

Although the two new events will only bring in around 2,500 US dollars, Westcott said that some of their greatest fundraisers have started modestly. The first document by the Shredding Event group collected 1,200 US dollars and now brings 12,000 to 16,000 US dollars per event. The next one will be in the police chief on May 24th.

Similarly, his first golf tournament collected 1,200 US dollars and now brings $ 5,000 a year.

“When we start new events, it takes time to build them up,” said Westcott. In the meantime, the events help to increase the crime stopper of Halton's profile in the community.

Crime Stopers of Halton also extends his participation in Bingos to Burlington.

The HASTON POLICE BOARD BAT Crime Stopers of Halton to update the Memorandum of Understanding between the two organizations. It was last updated in 2012, and the chairman of the police committee, Jeff Knoll, said it was important to update the document to confirm the role and responsibilities of Crime Stopper in the Community Watch program.
