The TD Bank will close almost 40 locations this summer, just a few months after a record-breaking anti-money laundering profit.

As one of the ten largest banks in the USA, TD Bank serves over 10 million retail, small businesses and commercial customers from Maine to Florida and has more than 1,000 branches across the country. But dozens of them will be part of their normal business practices next month as part of what the bank says.

A spokesman for the TD bank says that he regularly assesses existing business and that USA is announced that “some closings, consolidations or moving factors can lead”. The ratings focus on “customer needs and preferences,” added the spokesman.

TD Bank's money laundering scandal

Raymond Chun

The closures come after the TD Bank guilty last year due to money laundering crimes. As a result, the lender agreed to pay more than $ 3 billion in terms of punishments in the greatest fine, which was of anti-monetary laundry law of all time.

The government said that TD Bank has ignored red flags of customers with high risk and created a “comfortable” environment for bad actors who threaten to enable drug cartels and other criminals to transmit hundreds of millions of dollars of illegal means.

“The TD Bank chose profits on compliance in order to keep its costs low,” said the U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland at the time when he announced that TD Bank was the largest bank that was approved to violate the law on banking secrecy.

The new CEO of the bank, Ray Chun, promised to “make the necessary changes to put the bank on a stronger foundation”.

“This is the priority of TD and my priority number one,” said Chun during a conference call in October 2024. “Do not make a mistake, we will fulfill our obligations to our supervisory authorities … We will do the work.”
