Some thoughts on the state of National NBA programs

Celtics

The piece in the NBA night was convincing, but not for most programs on TNT and ABC.

Reggie Miller was an excellent guest on talk shows, but his color commentary on game programs is rather remarkable for quantity as quality. Frank Franklin II

Translated a few thoughts about the state of National NBA when Reggie Miller said another dozen times that Jalen Brunson won the Clutch Player of the Year Award …

· The overall game in the NBA night was consistently convincing. The same does not apply to most programs, some due to a lack of first -class color commentators.

Miller, who, as usual, was confused with the always excellent Kevin Harlan for games 1 and 2 of the Celtics-Knicks series. He is an A+ Talk Show guest, especially during his regular appearances in “The Dan Patrick Show”, but as an analyst he speaks without saying.

I heard of some Celtics fans who think that Harlan and Miller sound like Knicks Homer on TNT. I absolutely disagree in Harlan's case. I suspect that every neutral national voice, after having listened to Brian Scalabrine and Eddie House's WE/US matters, could listen to any neutral national voice towards the opponent all year round. Harlan calls everyone Big Play with his distinctive cheers, and the Knicks made the big games late in these two games.

But Miller? Well, let us express it like this: Sometimes it sounds more like a guy who played for the Knicks than someone who was her main names for a few years in the 1990s. Doesn't he remember that the Celtics were the team that actually wanted to sign him before the 2007/08 season?

Apart from the Faceity, I wish he would limit his comment if he actually had something to say.

I would rather hear Stan van Gundy as an analyst in this series, even though he has his annoying quirks. He takes care of the color of the Warriors-Temberwolves, and I don't say that he thinks he thinks everyone Foul should be a no-call, but Draymond Green could pull a Billy Club out of his sock and hit Rudy Gobert into the kneecap, and van Gundy would say while watching the repetition, it should be nothing other than a common foul.

This is probably a remnant of his time as an assistant in Pat Riley's Goon-Up Heat teams in the 90s.

· It is not better for ESPN/ABC, but at least it is a little understandable. The departure of Doc Rivers from his No. 1 Broadcast team in January 2024 to take over the head coach of the hinge led to the increase in the relative beginner JJ Redick (alongside Mike Breen and Doris Burke). When Redick took over the Lakers job after last season, ESPN/ABC was stuck with an exhausted deep card. Richard Jefferson was clearly pulled out of the need, and a three-person team was a necessity at all-and not from the necessity and not one based on radio skills.

ESPN could not have assumed that rivers and then Redick would roll for less than a year as part of the top program for NBA benches. But here it might be a karmic justice in the game, because it was almost stupid to dismiss Jeff van Gundy in June 2023. Breen, Van Gundy and Mark Jackson (who was also released) had the kind of chemistry that no current highly profiled NBA Broadcast team was able to replicate.

· I am excited to see which new talent will appear in the next season when the league of two Broadcast partners goes to three (ESPN/ABC, NBC and Amazon). The generation of LeBron James has started to go to radio with some promise; Carmelo Anthony will be a studio analyst for NBC and Peacock next year, and if Chris Paul ever retire, he will be pursued greatly as an analyst.

Then there is Dwyane Wade, who has many repetitions with TNT and last summer the color of the Olympic basketball reporting of the NBCS has Olympic basketball basketball. Surprisingly, he joined Amazon as a color commentator and studio analyst instead of signing at NBC, which was his widely expected route.

Taylor Rooks will organize the NBA in the Prime Video Studio Show as well as the analysts Dirk Nowitzki and Blake Griffin, both of whom have legitimate sense of humor. Steve Nash and Candace Parker will play the same role as Wade, while Udonis Haslem will spit out nonsense as a studio analyst.

The previous settings of NBC include Jamal Crawford and – Ugh – Miller. The game voices will be Mike Tirico and Noah Eagle. Trico was predictably exceptional during his game with NBC Sports Boston in March, the memorable night Derrick White and Payton Pritchhard, each exceeded 40 points.

· I don't know anything about you, but I am not ready to end “NBA on TNT” when the Eastern Conference finals are completed. Warner Bros. Discovery will still produce “Inside the NBA” to ESPN and ABC from next year, but I cannot convince myself that the most entertaining sports studio show ever will be the same.
