Wastewater leaf leaves Pajifond's Junta Quarter stink

Team Herald

Margao: For over a week, untreated wastewater continuously loosened into the open rooms around residential buildings of the Junta quarters in Pajifond, Margao, to great health concerns from the locals, whereby the authorities have not yet been solved with the problem.

The residents have complained that the leak is due to a damaged underground pipeline. The bad smell and stagnating water have caused extremely unsanitary conditions, especially for children who often play in the area.

“This is not just an inconvenience, it is a serious health risk,” said Sobha Desai, a long -time resident of Junta Quarter. “The authorities have been informed several times, but there was no answer. We are forced to live with this unbearable stench and the fear of diseases,” she added

Despite repeated symptoms among the citizens, the residents claim that no inspection or repair work has been carried out so far. The open wastewater is not only a stain, but also a breeding floor for mosquitoes, which increases the risk of diseases such as dengue and malaria.

“The children here are at risk every day,” added Mohan Naik, another resident.

“They play outside in the evening, but now we are afraid to let them get out at all. We don't want to wait for someone to get sick seriously before the action is taken,” he added.

The situation is worrying because this is a densely populated residential area. The sewage flow through open spaces near houses not only causes symptoms, but also raises serious concerns about the environment and public health.

The residents have requested immediate intervention by the Department of Public Works (PWD) and Margao Municipal Council. You have requested urgent repairs to the damaged sewage line and the proper disinfection of the affected area to prevent the outbreak of illness.

Until then, people stay in the Junta quartals in need and wait for the authorities to act before the situation deteriorates.
