Donald Trump says China will absorb the tariff costs in the ABC interview

President Donald Trump rejects concerns that tariffs could increase consumer costs on imported goods from China, and says in an interview that “China will probably eat this tariff”.

Trump was asked in an ABC news interview after the trade war with China on April 29.

ABC News Anchor and Senior National Correspondent Terry Moran said that the 145% tariffs were “basically an embargo”.

“That's good,” replied Trump. “You deserve it.”

Economists say that the tariffs could lead to higher prices for a number of imported goods.

“It will increase the prices for everything, from electronics to clothing to the construction of houses,” said Moran.

“You don't know. You don't know whether China will eat it or not,” said Trump, before adding that China would probably absorb the tariff costs.

“At 145, you can basically not do a lot of business with the United States,” added Trump.

Trump also defended his deportation tactic. The president was pushed to whether undocumented immigrants should receive court hearings before court hearings before they are removed from the country, “if people come to our country illegally, there is a different standard.”

In the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, which was incorrectly deported to El Salvador, the Trump government admitted to court that it was removed because of an “administrative error”. The President said that an administrative prosecutor “shouldn't say that” and that he “is not the one who makes this decision” whether he should give him back.

Trump defended his steps to punish perceived opponents, including the revocable security checks and the follow -up of law firms with executive order, some of which accuse companies of being “partisan” in the customers they represent.

“If you say I treat people roughly, I don't treat people roughly,” said Trump. “I was treated worse than every president in the history of our country. And you know, people thought, maybe it is … he leaves the city, the helicopter goes and then I came back and I have enormous support.”
