Johann Zarco achieved a fairytale victory in a dramatic French MotoGP and became the first home winner since 1954, although he was falsified in the first harassment of a late race.

The LCR Honda Rider was victorious for the first time since Phillip Island in 2023 when intermittent rain mocked the field.

“I am something very special and proud because I love motorcycle history and write this line as a French driver who wins the French GP is just magic,” beamed Zarco.

“I always press and hope that I can win races or be on the podium. Today, today it was also about making this choice for the rain tires.”

After the initial start was stopped because all drivers started for their wet bicycles at the end of the warm-up round, 13 drivers turned their decision and returned for dry machines for the restart.

Zarco was not among them.

“When I saw that the others went with the slicks, I knew that it would rain. So I tried to save these wet tires because the route was somehow dry at the beginning. But with raindrops and the other boys on slicks I knew that things would happen to me.”

But the race didn't start well.

Zarco was sent by 11th place in curve 1 and ended the first round in 17th place through the gravel.

“I lost a lot of time at my start because I didn't want to use a starting device,” said Zarco, fearing that there would not be enough braking pollution to solve the system.

“I didn't know how to slow down on the first corner, so I say, I prefer to be safe in the first corners, but I lost so much time at the start.

“And the attempt to continue in the first harassment can happen in the middle. The bike took up and I did a lot. I even lost my left end from the handlebar and went straight to the gravel.

“But then things were okay, my handlebar was a bit broken for the electronic side. But it was good enough to drive, and from that moment I said:” Well, you lost a lot. Now just wait and see. “That was the situation in the first rounds.”

The weather then turned worse and Zarcos and sent those back to the pieces. Jack Miller, also on Schwets, then fell out, while the Frenchman went into the lead in round 8 of 26.

“I knew that Jack Miller would be strong under these conditions … And when Jack crashed, I started to believe that I could win the race,” said Zarco.

“I was afraid when Marc [Marquez] Switched to the rain tires because he started faster than I went.

“But I think he also reached the boundary of the rain tires and couldn't push much more and my gap was big enough to control it.”

Zarco was initially eight seconds in front of the title guide and sprint winner Marquez, Marquez, and stormed into a huge 19-second victory and ignited cheering celebrations among the 120,000 home fans.
