Moderators who are needed for dialogues to the victim of perpetrators

May 5th Media Authority (Lima) __ Sacrifices for victims of crime are looking for volunteers to convey conversations between victims of crime and those that harmed them.

The victim's dialogue (VoD) is a nationally recognized process of the restorative judiciary, which offers victims of crime the opportunity to meet with criminals in a safe, structured environment, talk about what happened and how he influenced them. As part of the healing process, the victims can receive answers to questions, describe the effects of a crime on them and express their feelings. Perpetrators have the opportunity to take responsibility for their actions, to understand and do the effects on others what they can do to do things right.

According to Amy Wiechart-Bayliff, Executive Director of Crime Opfim Services, “dialogues for victims of perpetrators can be very helpful for both victims and for the perpetrator and benefit the community as a whole. They increase satisfaction with the criminal justice process and reduce the likelihood of future crimes. ”

Voluntary moderators receive training courses in mediation and restorative justice. In cooperation with a CO image, you will treat cases that are referred to by law enforcement agencies and other programs for victim services for crime services. Moderators should have good communication skills and stay calm and help to reduce conflicts during very emotional conversations. You must be able to refer to people from different backgrounds and to treat everyone with fairness and impartiality.

“The relief of the dialogues of sacrificial criminals is a challenge, but it can be very rewarding,” said David Orr, coordinator of the program. “It is very gratifying to help people recover from the damage and move positively forward.”
