Philly Rapper LGP Qua, who was killed in the weekend robbery attempt, says the police, says the police

LGP Qua, a popular rapper who is known to talk about the challenges and realities of survival as a young black man in Philadelphia, was shot at the weekend when the police believed that it was a robbery.

The 30 -year -old Qidere Johnson and a friend were near the streets M and Lucerne on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. when two men were attacked in masks that were armed with weapons, the police said. The men tried to rob Johnson and his boyfriend and tried to steal gold chains around his neck when one of the men once shot Johnson's chest, the police said.

The armed men fled and it is not clear whether they have successfully stolen something. No arrests were made, the police said.

The friend hurried to Johnson to Temple University Hospital, where he died shortly afterwards, the police said.

As an independent rapper, Johnson had built up an extensive supporter in Philly and had songs with well -known artists such as French Montana and Will.i.am. He called himself the “voice of the youth”, and his Instagram showed freesties about the combat and strength of children and families in some of the poorest and resenting districts of the city.

“I really went through pain, but it won't break me, I'm a fighter,” he sang in a song. “Have you ever lost a friend and then grew up for his child, who looks just like him?

Ameer Barber, a community activist who is known on Instagram as a “MotorateOth215”, said he saw Johnson as a little brother, a “younger version of me”. The two had talked about how they can effectively contact the young people of the city and help older generations better understand what they are going through.

While many young men in Philly started building music career from drill rap and writing songs about the killing of people and mocking their death, Barber said that Johnson remained loyal to himself and spoke the truth with power.

“If everyone wanted to talk about killing everyone, he wanted to talk about the effects,” he said. “What the youth in Philadelphia through, he paints this picture – the pain they felt that they have no father, the drugs out here on the street, the school system.”

“He illustrates what many children in Philly really feel and he showed it through music,” he said.

This is a developing history and is updated.
