Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest will have an operation on abdominal injuries

Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi will be operated on to repair the abdominal injury against Leicester City.

Awoniyi was hospitalized today after the club's medical staff was checked that the problem required an urgent treatment.

The Nigeria International suffered the injury late in the 2-2 draw on the city premises after collapsing the position.

The 27 -year -old Awoniyi tried to play the pain after the injury, which came when he bravely entered to get at the end of an Anthony Elanga Cross.

Elanga was clearly off the site in the establishment of the goal, and the city manager of Leicester, Ruud van Nistelrooy, called for a change in the rules as a result in order to avoid such incidents again.

“When it is so clear, put the flag on. If you have doubts, we have VAR to give us the chance to be sure. But if it is so obvious, stop players who sprint 40 m or 50 m and prevent such moments,” said van Nistelrooy in his press conference after the game.

Awoniyi needed about three minutes of treatment after the collision and was then replaced in the 91st minute of the game after Nuno Espirito Santo was described as “false communication” between the player, the medical staff of the club and the coaching team.

Forest used his last available substitution window to replace Elliot Anderson with Jota when Awoniyi was waiting for the touch to get permission to get back to the field.

“It was disappointing for everyone. Unfortunately we had to play with one man for the last 10 minutes. T (Awoniyi) exchanged it, but it was too painful to really urge and help the team,” said Nuno in his press conference.

“There was a misunderstanding between the coaching staff and the medical department. We had our heads to make a U boat, then tried, but he couldn't.”

The problem was the subject of an animated conversation between Nuno and forest owner Evangelo's Marinakis on the field after the last pipe.

Awoniyi achieved three starts and 23 replacement appearances in the Premier League this season and scored a goal.
