The Lake County's office starts proactive police unit to combat crime

Painesville, Ohio-der Sheriff of Lake County, devoted Lake County Sheriff for refugees and drug-related crimes and said that a new unit had reached over 260 arrests and confiscated significant amounts of narcotics, which improves security throughout the district.

The device is laser -oriented on proactive monitoring.

“It is a more targeted implementation,” said Frank Leonbrunno, Sheriff Lake County.

The deputies target refugees, drugs and weapons. Leonbrunno founded the unit last year and said it made a difference in the Lake County communities.

“They absolutely identified themselves at a number of traffic stops in large drugs, they identified clothed people,” added Leonbrunno.

According to the Lake County Sheriff's office, in the past nine months that have been assigned to the new MP, 261 arrest and 30 drug arrests have made. In February, the four-person unit in March 713 responded to 687 services for service and 903 in April.

Last month, MPs made two different traffic stops in the new unit, which achieved almost three pounds of methamphetamine. Leonbrunno said it was packaged and ready to be sold in the Lake County communities.

News 5 received with the MPs to make a close call to what they do to slow down crimes in the county.

“We will go to Eastlake to pick up one of our first arrest warrants,” said the deputy Matt Arko. That ended with the arrest.

Arko left the business world to protect and serve. “Every day is different,” said Arko.

The deputy deputy Brandon Savage and his K9 partner Ryker are the other half of Unit News 5 with which they spent time.

“His nose is 30, 40 times stronger than ours,” said Savage.

With this nose, Ryker is used in many different situations. The unit answers to help other MPs and other law enforcement authorities in Lake County.

“We are required for traffic stops to carry out free air sniffers in the vehicle for illegal narcotics. We are called up by various agencies to look for people who are missing, or objects that have been thrown by someone is running,” said Savage.
