Staunton does not expect major floods in the middle of the Shenandoah Valley Flood Watch

Staunton, va. (WHSV) -Although flood guardian applies to the entire viewing area, Staunton officers said that the rain should not be a concern for the Wharf area at risk of flooding.

The Wharf parking and the Byer Street have been closed to the public for the repair of emergency infrastructures for the public since March. Josh Knight, Engagement & Communications Manager in Staunton, said that the infrastructure gives three main areas.

“Everything is to limit the amount of weight that goes through these concerns,” said Knight. “To do our best to enable as much parking as possible … at the same time to keep security as No. 1 priority.”

Knight said that the rain is expected to get over a period of days and not everyone at once, the water should enable it to get into the area and from the area.

“Our bigger problems and problems below, as we saw in 2020, are very intensive precipitation in a short time – several centimeters in an hour,” said Knight. “That over two to three days should be something in which the water can move and take off.”

Knight said the city monitors the weather to ensure that there are no problems with rain measuring devices and stream measuring devices. He added that the city appreciates the patience of everyone, since the crews continue to deal with the problems with the Creek tunnels.
