Diplomatic scandal: The Council of Ministers refuses to organize the Polish embassy's consent to organize elections in BIH

The message of the Republic of Poland in Sarajevo announced that it is not approved by the Minister of the Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina to organize the Presidential elections of the Republic of Poland on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but the elections in the premise of the embassy in Sarajevo.

The message of the message states that they informed the Foreign Ministry of Bosnia and Herzegovina about the organization of the elections for the President of the Republic of Poland about a diplomatic note.

“In view of the fact that international law guarantees the unimpeded access of the citizens to its diplomatic mission, the message of the Republic of Poland in Sarajevo will organize the elections for the President of the Republic of Poland in their premises for Polish citizens who live temporarily or permanently in the territory of Bosnia and Herzegowina”

The elections will take place on May 18 in the first round, and a possible second round is planned for June 1, 2025. The vote lasts from 07:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and the only polling station will be the construction of Poland's message in ViĆĄnjik 20 in Sarajevo.

In its official answer, however, the Foreign Ministry of BIH points out that the Minister of BIH did not make a consensus on the acceptance of the diplomatic note of the Republic of Poland on April 7 and did not provide his consent to organize the elections, even in the premiums of the embassy.

“The Council of Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina In its 75th meeting on April 7, 2025, there was no consensus on the acceptance of the diplomatic note of the message of the Republic of Poland … and did not give the approval of the voices.”

Interestingly, a similar situation occurred last year when Poland, together with Romania and Slovakia, refused to organize elections for the European Parliament in the field of BIH.

The Polish message is reminiscent of the fact that elections outside the headquarters are not organized, which means that in such a case the consent of the host country is not necessary. However, the BIH State Department claims that such a form of vote will not be regulated and approved without the consent of the Council of Ministers.

The Polish message also indicates the principle of reciprocity that BIH citizens in Poland can choose in elections organized by the BIH message in Warsaw.

The BIH Foreign Ministry has warned the management from the coordination of police authorities from the possible increased traffic and the need to protect the message of the message.

Whether this is a mere understanding of procedures will be shown in the coming days.
