Pregame Orioles notes on the Sánchez manual injury, Handley Promotion, Mountcastle slump and more

Gary Sánchez had a soft bracket this afternoon that covered his right wrist and hand, and no idea if he were able to ward off and play it again.

The Orioles put Sánchez yesterday on the 10-day injured list of inflammation on the wrist, which is caused by a stress reaction.

“It has been bothering me a little for a few weeks,” he said about the interpreter Brandon Quinones. “On some days it is fine and then on some days it is not so good, so I thought it was the best decision to make a stop at the moment and rest and recover instead of continuing to assert. I think when I tried to push through, I didn't help the team as it was.

Sánchez is 3 against 30 with four RBIs and 12 strikes with the Orioles after signing $ 8.5 million. The injury affected his bats.

“I think at the contact point in my swing it is when I started to feel the discomfort,” he said. “Don't necessarily throw or something, just with my swing. I really think that affects me.”

Sánchez is entitled to return on May 8th.

“It could be more, it could be less,” he said. “At the moment we are just waiting and just see. They gave me something to put my hand on my hand so as not to move it so much now, and I think after a week we will see how I feel and go from there. The Orioles selected Maverick Handley's Treaty of Triple-A Norfolk and he supports Adley Rutschman while he is on the sidelines of his debut of the Major League. He scored with six doubles, a triple and a Homerun in 15 games .346/.433/.558.

“I am waiting for these statistics to start safely on the back of the baseball card,” he said. “Awesome to be here and still wait for the opportunity.”

The Major League field coordinator/catch teacher Tim Cossins announced Handley that he would switch from the Taxi squad to the active roster.

“Yesterday was a whirlwind,” said Handley. “I think to hear these words, they definitely meet something that has been waiting for some time. It was a great design class from 2019. I and Kade Strowd, who appeared together, were with this type, how many years now? Brandon young, I have known this guy for many years.

Handley, a selection at Stanford University in the sixth round, received the official word after making the impact practice. It was not the usual meeting in the office of the Triple-A manager. But the Orioles brought him to Baltimore and knew that Sánchez may have to go to the IL.

Manager Brandon Hyde saw Handley on the phone with a big smile.

“These are the special moments,” said Hyde. “Mav is such a great guy and he has a good year in Triple-A and he can really catch. Had a good spring training for us. But we really like the person. We are happy for him to get this opportunity.”

The taxi, which was cut several times in the taxi, is calmed down for Handley.

The only Homerun from Mountcastle was hit on April 13th. He has met two since July 7, 2024. The movement in the left field wall has not triggered a power bike.

Hyde does not believe that Mountcastle tries too much to clear it and get into bad habits.

“I just think he's really going through it,” said Hyde. “I thought he was doing the ball early without success, and it looks like a guy who just exhausts herself too much and we try to relax him, the game a little slow. He does not bring him to his defense. He plays an excellent defense for us.

“He doesn't hunt as much as he has done in the past. It just doesn't really happen at the moment. It's about it because he is too good that he continues much longer.”
