Gaza journalist Hassan Aslih killed in the hospital in Israeli strike

An Israeli air strike in the emergency room of the Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza has killed a well -known Palestinian photojournalist, saying medical sources and eyewitnesses.

Hassan Aslih, who was treated for injuries to a former Israeli strike, was geared towards what witnesses described as a drone attack on the surgical wing of the hospital.

A doctor confirmed that ASLIH was in the hospital for almost a month after surviving an air raid on the same facility in April.

The Israeli military had previously accused ASLIH of being involved in the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7th. The strike in April killed Aslih's colleague Helmi al-Faqawi and wounded several other journalists.

At that time, Ismail al-Thawabta, director of the government media office led by Hamas, said Israel's accusations against ASLIH were “wrong” and added that ASLIH had no political affiliation.

“The occupation's claim that ASLIH came into the occupied country and took part in the incidents on October 7 is part of a directive for discrediting and manufacturing that the profession takes on attacks on journalists and media staff,” Thawabta told the Reuters Agency on April 7.

Aslih had published dozens of photos and videos in which the Hamas attack was documented from the Israeli area on October 7.

Aslih worked for years as a freelance photo journalist with international and local news agencies. In Gaza, he was widely respected for his extensive reporting on the conflict and often documented events from the front. He has more than half a million followers on Instagram, where he documents the war.

The Israeli defense forces said in a statement that the Nasser Hospital had attacked it in a “targeted attack on important terrorists” but did not name aslih.

The hospital was used by Hamas to “carry out terrorist connections against Israeli forces and citizens”.

According to the Watson Institute for Public Affairs, the Israel Gaza War is the deadliest conflict for journalists in history. Since the attacks on October 7, more than 232 journalists have been killed in Gaza.
