Trump travels to Saudi Arabia to start the first big trip abroad

The Democrats of the Congress condemn Trump's plan to accept a luxury jet from Qatar as Air Force One. The President argues that it was “stupid” to reject the offer.

Senator Jack Reed from Rhode Island, the Supreme Democrat on the Senate Committee, described the gift “an obvious conflict of interest” and said that it undermines the integrity of the American leadership.

“The President would also clearly violate the emrocers, a determination in the US constitution that prohibits federal officials to accept gifts or financial advantages of a foreign state without the consent of the congress,” said Reed in a statement.

The Republican MP Warren Davidson from Ohio compared the situation with earlier GOP criticism by Hillary Clinton and said: “The appearance of corruption alone cries out,” bad idea! “My views have not changed.”

The Democrats of the Senate plan to force a vote for a resolution this week that would condemn the gift.

“There should be 100 of us who agree on this basic principle, no president should take free things from a foreign government, and certainly nothing worth $ 400 million,” said Senator Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii.

Trump called the gift “a nice gesture” yesterday.

“I would never be someone who rejects such an offer. I mean, I could be a stupid person who says:” No, we don't want a free, very expensive plane. “But it was, I thought it was a big gesture,” said Trump reporters in the White House.

He continued that countries like Qatar “would probably not exist” if it weren't for the United States, “and I think this was just a gesture of good faith,” he added.
