Bronx shooting: 16-year-old girl killed after being shot near the school in Morrisania, the Bronx,

Morrisania, the Bronx (WABC) – The police are working on bringing a 14-year-old boy into custody after claiming that he had fired shots into a lot that claimed the life of a 16-year-old girl in the Bronx.

Officials believe that the victim was an innocent viewer.

The girl was declared dead after being shot in the Morrisania section at the Bronx Latin School on Monday at around 5 p.m.

The video recovered by a school camera shows how children leave the schoolyard and enter a alley next to the building.

Officials say the video shows a struggle between a group of children who gather in the alley.

They say that a 14-year-old boy who wears a white T-shirt and shorts is punched in the face and pushed onto the floor by another man with a gray hoodie.

At some point someone slips a pistol from the 14-year-old, who then fires three shots into the crowd and kicks the 16-year-old Evette Jeffrey in the head.

The police say that Jeffrey drove out of the schoolyard with a scooter and was an innocent viewer.

“She does not take a fight and immediately goes to another man on the edge of the group, who tries to pull her behind a wall for the cover,” said NYPD commissioner Jessica table. “When the shots are fired, our victim, whom we believe that he is an unintentional goal, will be hit. And she immediately falls on the floor with a gunshot wound. When the other children run away for her life.”

Paramedics were on site within five minutes.

“The little girl was on the floor. They only gave her the HLW and it was devastating. I was with my daughter,” said a woman.

The mother of a 13-year-old girl says that she tried to comfort the victim's mother, who desperately fell to the ground.

“She said no, this is not my daughter, and then she ran and right there she lost her balance,” said the woman.

“I have a child. And I can't even imagine what this mother is going through,” said Mayor Eric Adams. “That destroys us.”

Adams spoke to a lot of parents who gathered and got their nerves on the way.

Other guides visited the Lincoln Hospital, in which the victim was taken. The 16-year-old was later declared dead.

“And Mama is absolutely insertable. She has received the worst call that no parent should ever get,” said the president of the Bronx Borough, Vanessa Gibson.

A father who lives on the other side of the street said to Eyewitness News that he immediately called his two teenagers when he heard.

“Because I knew it had to be there. This is just a hot block,” said the neighbor, Frank Dunn.

He and other concerned parents ask co -mothers and fathers to understand what their children are doing.

“You have many parents who are young nowadays and they only want their children out of the house,” said Dunn. “Go out of the house. I don't want you here. Go. I don't care what you do.”

Officials say that the Jeffrey, who only turned 16 last month, is a student of the nearby Morris High School.

The police are now looking for the 14-year-old boy as one person of interest in connection with the shootout, and they may try more arrests if they continue to examine how this young shooter has the gun in their hands.

“Tonight, a 16-year-old from a 14-year-old is dead with a weapon,” said Tisch. “These are babies who kill babies and it has to stop.”

So far there have been 28 victims and 17 shooters in 2025, all under the age of 18, in just over four months. In 2024, the victims under the age of 18 increased by 200%in the Bronx.
