Jayson Tatum injury 'one of the darker Celtic days'

Jayson Tatum's injury could mean the disaster for the Celtics – and not just for the series against the Knicks.

And Boston Superfan Bill Simmons ignores the potential tremendosity of the devastating injury, for which the team and its fans are still waiting for full clarity on Tuesday afternoon from 2:45 p.m.

“Tonight was not a good night for Celtics fans, Holy SH-T,” said Simmons about the team's potentially franchise change against the kinks in his self-titled podcast on Tuesday morning.

“That could fall – we will see what happens to Tatum – but this could fall as one of the darker Celtic days.”

Tatum injury came in the last minutes of 121-113 and it didn't look good.

After the 27-year-old Celtics superstar had been lost with a non-contact violation, he banged in pain before he was helped. He had no weight on his right leg and was finally put in a wheelchair.

“I won't speculate too much about the Tatum things, but it didn't look good,” said Simmons. “The worst scenario is an Achilles scenario, the best-case scenario is like torn ligaments in his ankle or a kind of bad ankle injury, but either way, for the series, and God only knows how long.”

Tatum's injury could not have come at a worse time, since the reigning NBA final champions ended the night 3-1 in the series.

But the problem is not only for the current series in front of the Celtics, but also for the fact that Tatum is in the middle of what is considered its heyday.

“Not to mention that he is at the height of his career, he never had a serious injury,” said Simmons. “If this is like a large part, it not only takes it out for these playoffs, but it also takes it out the whole year. You just ask yourself: Will he be able to return to the point he was at tonight?”

In Tatum eight years in Boston, he never played less than 64 of the 82 games in the regular season. But if the severity of the injury on Monday is as bad as many speculate, he will probably miss the entire next season.

Simmons was visibly depressed when he discussed the violation of Tatum and Boston's accepting title hopes.

“We will see what happens to Tatum,” he said. “This speaks to: a) how difficult it is to win a title. B) How important happiness is. C) How difficult it is to put together a few really good years in a row.”
